  1. I live in England, but while on holiday in America my friend gave me an old Compaq Armada M700 Laptop. It has a Multi-bay CD-DVD drive, At first it would only play region 1 DVD's, I finally found a utility which would change the region code, but then i bought another dvd drive off E-bay, so i can simply just swap the drives over.
I always back up my dvd collections onto dvd-r, they play on all my other computers and standalone I have tried DVD+R but they are no good for playback on the standalone dvd player.

Anyway, I found that the copied DVD's would not play well on the laptop, some would just burr away in the drive others would play then freeze stop and start and be jittery. I discovered if i made a copy onto a dvd+r they would play just perfect This occurred on both drives. So i have come to the conclusion that DVD+r must be an American choice and DVD-r an english choice, why can they not just stick to one media type

because -R is cheaper but +R has "lossless linking".

you think it's bad now? what till you have a DVD-/+/ram/hd-dvd/bluray/fmd/cd-r/rw drive
