Capturing video from optus tv

Hello to all this is my first post, i have a friend with optus tv, he tapes a 30 min serial and gives me the tapes, when i capture them to the computor i get a very wide black stripe on the left a right, when i capture other videos i dont have this problem, this only happens when i play to the computor, on the other tv's there's no stripes, can somone fill me in with a solution.

Hi MalVic. I think you will find that your friend has set his optus box to 16:9, then using his VCR to record in 4:3 . This is why you get black bands on the left and right of screen. I hope this helps.
