  1. I have Sony DVP-NS 730P region free and PAL compliant (Australia). It converts on the fly VCD in NTSC to PAL format to colour but is locked into black & white play back for NTSC DVDs it convets to PAL. Anyone got any ideas on how to unlock to get colour play back of NTSC? I think this is Sony's response to Australia prohibiting region locking.

It might be your TV that can't accept the signal. I had that problem on an older UK TV.

  4. Thanks for the replies; The TV is PAL only, Sony specifically state playback is B/W in NTSC unless NTSC TV connected. However they also state you can only have either PAL or NTSC playback. You can change the format by holding down 'pause' on the player then hold down the player on/off button on the remote. I haven't been able to get that to work. I have another unit at 1/3 the price that does everthing, its just has trouble with scratched etc discs, the Sony doesn't. It would be nice to have the Sony do everthing.

The software signal type is set to 'Auto'. I may have to buy a TV that does both PAL & NTSC, but I was hoping to avoid that.

Is 'Digital' different to PAL & NTSC again? If I ran the signal into a Digital set top box would that help?

Change from Auto to PAL. if it doesn't work like that you'll need a new TV.

um, no. unless your DVD player has a digital output, your set top box has a digital input and it can convert ntsc to pal, there's no help there.
