  1. I just bought the Pioneer DVR 510, and was wondering if there is anyway to insert custom chapter breaks when transferring content from HDD To DVD Disc? Any help would be appreciated from this newbie/

  3. I've read the manual, and I know how to set the chapter breaks when I'm recording to the hard drive, but when I transfer from the HDD to CD, the chapter breaks which I set, are not there.

  4. Sorry but I've never had a problem where my chapter breaks dont stay... are you adding them after or during recording?

  5. I'm adding them right after I record them to the hard drive. Then I go and copy them to a Disc, and my chapter breaks are gone. I've set the automatic chapter breaks to none, all that did was create a disc with no chapters. What settings should I have the recorder on?

The manual states that the chapter markers is copeid to a video mode DVD only if you make a high speed copy. See manual page 65.

Can it be this that's the case for you?

I had the same problem. The chapter marker only remain when you record at high speed. It is not possible to record at high speed to DVD video mode after a copy list has been created on the HDD, you can only copy to VR mode in high speed. You can insert chapter in the original on the HDD and copy at high speed in DVD video mode and the chapters will remain. For edited video in a copy list I have recorded in VR mode to a DVD and then back to the HDD all in high speed. You can then copy back to the DVD in video mode and the chapters should remain.

    Hope this makes sense.

  8. You CAN keep chapter breaks when copying at high speed but to do so you have to turn off "Frame Accurate".

For some reason having Frame Accuracy selected defeats the high speed copy.

This small but vital piece of info has been omitted from the user manual AFAIK!

I'd been tearing my hair out for weeks over this one. I was so frustrated having spent ages pain stakingly setting loads of chapter marks only to then find I couldnt keep them AAAARRRGGGGHHHH!

Not even Pioneer GB customer relations knew about this as they suggested my 5100 may have a fault and that I should return it for checking.

I knew this just wasnt the case.

But all is sorted now 8^)

How do you make it automatically set chapters when recording to the HDD?

The manual only seems to refer to setting chapters when recording to a dvd.

  10. I'm not sure if I'm correct, but I think there's a limit on the number of chapter marks allowed. If it were possible to auto mark every recording it wouldnt take long for this limit to be reached.

Also, I think most of us only bother to chapter mark things we want to keep and these are are unlikely to be stored long term on the HDD.

So for these reasons I guess auto chapter marking for HDD was never inluded.

  11. From what I can read in the manual, autochapter marking should work recording to the HDD as well. Has anyone had a problem with this? I spoke to Pioneer Customer Support and they believe it depends on the recording speed. I haven't tried various speeds yet, but I do know that when I record from HDD to DVD no chapter markers are created, even when autochapter is set to on. It does work when recording directly to DVD (from satellite).

    Any clues?

    Hi,

Chapters marked using the chapter button on the remote stay so long as you use high speed copy (which does not re-encode the recorded material). Also, chapters are inserted for each chunk of 'split' media created in the copy menu. This is quite useful, actually.

Auto chapter marks don't seem to work on the HDD.
