I'm capturing from SVHS by using a Sony TRV730 camcorder to convert the analog signal to DV and pass it on to a firewire card. In general the process works fairly well but an old post made on this board made me wonder if I would get the same results if I dubbed to a digital tape in the camcorder first. I tried it and sure enough the captures are different. For example, the comb shape of interlacing is clearly visible on the capture of the digital tape while on the analog->digital capture these areas are "smudged."
I would expect the two captures to be the very close to each other. Why are they different? Does anyone have any experience with this?
