  1. Hey guys,

Just started experimenting with VCD authoring, and am using Sefy's guide found in the "how to" section.

Anyways, the guide suggests using AVI Audio Decompressor to extract the audio from an .AVI if we're dealing with MP3 VBR (use decompressor to write a new .AVI where the audio is in the PCM/WAV format, and then extract using VDub). This method worked like a charm with the first few attempts, but the last two video clips I tried to convert, halfway through the new video clip, the audio strays and by the end, is out of synch. I noticed this after running through TMPGenc, where I noticed that the first of two .mpg files didn't have audio synch problems, but the second part did. Thought it might be TMPGenc, but checked the .avi file that Decompressor wrote, and in the first half of the clip, the audio is in synch, but towards the end it's not.

Any ideas on what's going in here? Is it a problem with Decompressor? Should I use something else?

    Thanks.

  2. I think (i'm not sure) that the AVIDecompressor is using DirectShow to decode the audio track, which means that "L3codeca.ax" is probably used.

If you use VirtualDubMod to "Demux" the audio track you can decode with an external decoder instead of this Windows OEM filter (liscensed from Fraunhofer).

I've heard that Lame.exe is alot more accurate method of decoding, but many apps could give good results.

The MAD (Mpeg Audio Decoder) is a dedicated application that is actually the source of Lame's ability. This is a good free choice!

Nope, it's just a MPEG audio decoder.

I only suggested it because it has descent quality, and in this package easy to use. Because its FREE, i know there's no reason someone wouldn't have access to it.

I'm sure Adobe Audition could do a wonderful job too!

Oops!, Lame is related to mpg123 not MAD.
