I am attempt to capture a poor quality VHS tape to my computer. I am using the following equipment: middle of the line SLV-N750 Sony VCR, feeding into a DataVideo Time Base Corrector TBC-1000, feeding into an ADS Pyro A/V Link module, feeding into a PCI Firewire card. My computer is a higher end XP Pro machine.
I have attempted to capture using Adobe Premier v7.0, but it continuously freezes during the capture process (1 minutes to 15 minutes into the capture).
I have attempted several freeware and trialware programs (Virtual Dub, AVI_IO, and VirtualVCR). I have not been able to even pre-view video with these packages and it does not look like they recognize the Firewire card/ADS module as a Device.
I have had some success with AmCap. I am able to capture what appears to be a 45 minute segment of my tape (which is the entire tape). However, when I go back to view the file it stops its progression of video at 4 minutes 56 seconds. The remaining 40 minutes of the file are the same frame over and over. The time of this stoppage appears consistent from capture session to capture session. Since the TBC is generating sync. signals this makes sense that the capture process would continue, but why would the video "freeze" on a particular frame? The screen preview shows correct video for the entire duration of the capture session.
Does anybody have an explaination for what I am observing?
Any help or suggestions are appreciated!
