Please help. Dvdinfopro reports the disc as mcc. I have a btc 1008 running firmware version 0658. Every disc I burn will play on the computer but will not play in my other dvd players.

The spindle is memorex 4x - blanks. I have swapped computers, trying to troubleshoot the dvd-burner. I still get the same problem. I am tired of burning coasters.

I use nero 6.3.1.15, dvdshrink and dvddecrypter

    This is what dvdinfopro reports

Err... so lemme get this straight - you're burning with Nero?

That right there is a problem.

Nero can't do DVD Video to save its life.

    Ditto!

Just use DVD Decrypter to burn.

Use ImgTools (the classic version only) to create an ISO image file for DVD Decrypter to burn from.

    Works like a charm

  4. YOUR copy of Nero can't, maybe.

Mine can - no problems to report with Nero at all.

There's more to media compatibility than the burning program (note I don't say authoring, that's a whole new can of worms), which actually doesn't do a lot when it comes to actually burning the disc.

More likely is compatibility between your players and choice of media, your choice of media and your recorder, your recorder's firmware and choice of media... sure, try another burning program if you want, but that only tells the recorder what to write to the disc. If you can play the disc in something, then I don't see why Nero gets the blame since it evidently has done the job.

Have you tried using DVDdecrypter to burn an ISO, for example ? It's amazing how many people slate Nero and then say DVDdecryptor works, when it's the same engine IIRC.

I use Nero exclusively, as do my colleagues, without problems. It might not work for everyone, but there are enough people out there who do use Nero to suggest Gurm has been unlucky, but NOT the norm.

  5. You guys must not have read my post because i have been trying to burn a video that i used decrypter and then dvd shrink on using nero and i haven't been able to yet. i followed what some other people told me and it got further along but when it came to actually burn it Nero said it failed.

I was told to try nero because I am using win ME and it has problems with larger files. In fact I read that in a guide too.

    I'm stuck.

Here is the latest error log nero gave me:

This is old news. A lot of people have trouble using NERO to burn a DVD Video disc. A lot of people use it and have no problems.

The "issue" is NOT user error however.

This has been "covered" to death on these forums.

NERO is just not anywhere even remotely near 100% reliable.

ImgTools classic and DVD Decrypter work ALL the time.

well you hear positives and negatives on just about any OS and if it wasn't so costly to purchase a full version of XP i would do just that but right now that's not an option.

i just downloaded copy2dvd and will try that and see what happens. other then this the only thing else i can think of is to retry burning with dvd decrypter and hoping it doesn't freeze up at 21% again.

It makes NO SENSE what-so-ever to be doing DVD video work with an OS that has a 4GB file limit.

You need to upgrade to WinXP or even Windows 2000 and use the NTFS file system so you no longer have the 4GB file barrier.

Thank you for the tips. I will try anything. I had been using nero for quite some time and never had a problem.

Like I said if I had the $$$ I'd make the switch but I don't and since doing DVDs wasn't in my plan 2 years ago when I upgraded from 98 to ME it wasn't an option.

In any event I downloaded and ran copy2dvd and I must say it was as easy as could be and more importantly it worked. well it worked on my computer now the test will be a coupld standalone dvd players. if my dvd works on those i'll be golden, for now.

I am getting a image file too big message.

Never mind. For some reason when I ripped the burned dvd, it uncompressed the movie back to double layer size.

I never got that message before!

Which program is giving you this message?

I used decrypter to rip and then imgtools said the image was too big when it came time to burn. Thanx again.

Well your VIDEO_TS file must be less than 4.7GB ... so how BIG is it?

The Nero thing has been beaten to death.

The practical upshot of all the debating is that there are some people who will NEVER see a problem burning DVD Video with Nero.

There are also other people who will ALMOST ALWAYS see a problem burning DVD Video with Nero.

Since there are other products (IMGTool/DVD Decryptor, or Copy2DVD, or even EZ Coaster Creator) with which there are NO people who experience these problems, and since Ahead keeps changing the way Nero burns DVD Video with each new revision (in what one might guess to be an attempt to "fix" this problem), we are forced to come to the conclusion that Nero is less than satisfactory.

If it works for you, great! You're in the majority of users who have no problem at all.

However, if it does NOT work for you, don't be alarmed because you're certainly not alone.

Decrypter for some reason uncompressed a burned dvd back into dl size.

As soon as I have the $$ to get a full version of XP I'll be switching but until then I'm stuck with ME since I got it installed for nothing and don't have any disks.

When I ripped the original burned dvd-r that would only play on the computer, the backup was over 8 gigs, but I ran shrink on it.

After I burned with decrypter, the image dvd would work on one of my three stand-alones.

I have no doubt that PICNIC is to blame. There has got to be something, 1 little step, that you are not quite doing correctly or something is not quite right with your computer.

WinME is probably not the best OS. period. THe 4GB limitation means that you can't use ISO images and are restricted to using 1GB VOBs, meaning the Nero option is probably your only choice (or any other burning software that does not require images). As mentioned, Nero seems to be very hit and miss, either you have 100% success or no success at all.

Could it be that your DVD Players don't like the media you are using ?

I personally have had no problems with my Smartripper/DVDShrink/Nero combination. Again though, the best burning method is what works for the individual.

I have experimented a bit trying a few different combos and my favourite method at the moment with DVD-5s DVD-Rs is DVD Decrypter ISO Read/ISO Write. Can't get any easier than that.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Is it a DL DVD-R ? Otherwise, if it has been burned and you ripped it, there's no way it could be over 4.37GB.

  24. Gurm you're a moron...I've never had a problem with Nero.
Look, let me explain something. I'm not Mr. Lebowski; you're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the Dude. So that's what you call me. That, or Duder. His Dudeness. Or El Duderino, if, you know, you're not into the whole brevity thing--

There was no user error. I have burned plenty of dvd's. It was only a couple of days ago that this problem started.

Never heard of that happening I'm afraid, and doesn't sound possible. List all the files in the VIDEO_TS directory on the disc and their filesizes and then do the same for the directory where you ripped the files to. Are you ripping to an empty directory ? If its an already burnt DVD, why not just copy the files using windows explorer or my computer ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

I use windows ME and the same burner. I had similar problems when i first got my burner. Made at least 30 coasters. I find if you use Alcohol 120% and Ritek or Ridisc 4X dvd-r's it burns perfect discs every time. Im not sure if Alcohol 120% is essential cos once i found out how to get it working i didnt want to change anything. Also make sure the program is set to run at 4X cos if it goes faster you still get coasters.

  29. well i think i'm at strike 5 now...i tested my burn that worked from copy2dvd of the movie i ran dvd decrypter then dvd shrink on and it worked in my computer's dvd burner but not in my standalone dvd player/recorder. the disc started when i inserted playing the little studio entry but then it stuck on 14 seconds and i could hear it trying to read but nothing. it stayed on 14 seconds until i ejected then reinserted only to have it pick right back up at 14 seconds and nothing.

    UGH...my head.

  30. well,try this for a test.
rip "movie only" with dvd decrypter.
    pass this through DVD2ONE.
selceting "movie only in there, and a file size of 4400meg.
then once thats done, copy this set of files with copytodvd.
if this doesnt work, then,IMO,its your dvd player thats crap.
    what model is it anyways.
