  1. I am having a problem playing back mpeg 2 video. I use win media player 8 (same problem with 9 also).

I am able to play DVDs through media player which seems to indicate that MPEG 2 codec is installed. However when I play a MPEG 2 encoded file, I get a 'error downloading codec' message. Then the media player plays the video but when I try to use the slider to move forward, the player hangs.

I have tried using avicodec and it says 'supported' for both audio and video. Can any one help with how to remove the problematic mpeg 2 codec and install a new one?
