  1. Dear friends.
I'm using TMPGEnc to convert AVI to MPEG2 (DVD) and It's very easy and simple but It loose many time to complete the process.
I want to know the best software to do this operation but doesn't loose many time.
Thanks and sorry about my bad english.

Mainconcept is a little bit faster, but I don't think it is as good
    as TMPGENC.

Intervideo Winproducer3 is even faster, but again, quality is
    not as good as TMPGENC.

Of course, a powerful computer will also be faster.

Having used both Mainconcept (about a yr) and TMPGENC (about 2yr) for quite a while, I now find my self using Mainconcept most of the time
mainly because of the speed (BIG increase over TMPGENC on my system - about 50% faster)
and as for the quality I can see very little difference to be honest - but I may not be that critical anyway.
but TMPGENC is still a very usefull + worthy tool to have around.

    Each to his own

  4. If it was about VCD(MPEG1) then i'd say no difference between the two, but for MPEG2(SVCD/DVD) encoding, MainConcept is much faster. The reason I keep both, is cause each has it's own benefits and disadvantages.

  5. I havent tested MC so very much, but for mpeg2 CCE Basic gives both better speed and better quality than MC for just over 1/3 the price. Also when using AviSynth MC cant keep up with the speed. CCE is still the best encoder for DVD. My #2 would be QuEnc, a really cool high quality app with command line switches for everything. Some of the earlier versions gave me some problems, havent seen any problems with 0.51 at any bitrate so far. Tmpgenc #3, MC comes last in my list because of highest price and lowest quality. I used to like MC for some reason, must have been the speed?

I was pretty pleased with the automation provided by The Film Machine using Canopus Procoder as the encoder method.

    It's simple for simple folks.

I prefer Procoder and TMPGEnc Plus most of the time.

  7. I would easily go with Canopus Procoder and CCE over MainConcept when it comes to quality. Also the speed of Procoder and CCE are better than TMPGEnc (at least when settings are kept as constant as possible between encoders).

That's just me and your milage may vary.
