If the original source is only about 200 lines of resolution (i.e. VHS, VHS-C, 8mm) then why would I choose a capture rate higher than 1/2 D1 which is 3,000 Kbps for DVD SP.
Does using Full-D1 of 4,500 or 6,000 Kbps provide any quality when your source is so low?

for VHS-C i'd go with 352x240 at 4-5mbits. if you capture at a higher video resolution, your video will not get any better because the source video is at 352x240, so your just wasting file size on useless pixels.

No. 720x480. No. Bloated file.
No. 352x240. No. No, too low (and forced deinterlace, hurts video, yuck)
Perfect? 352x480 interlaced MPEG2

Read those.
Pay attention to resolutions, interlacing rules, bitrate graphs.
and for future reference....
