I'm trying to copy a homemade DVD. When I try and copy the DVD, I'm using Nero or Record Now Max. I get the message saying that there is not enough room on the target disc to make a copy. Yes I'm using a blank disc. If I copy the files to my harddrive, I get a read error. Would this be due to some sort of copy protection on the DVD. If it is, what is the best way around it. Thanks.

    Two words for you:

    DVDDecrypter
    DVDShrink

It's not as simple as just dragging the file off the DVD onto your hard drive. Read the guides and use these tools. Trust me, you'll be glad you did.

Read errors usually indicate bad media/bad burn.

Correct me if I am wrong, DVD Shrink has already embedded DVD Decrypter.

    yeah,

But I still use DVDDecrypter to rip, guarantees working backups

Sounds like you're running out of space as the source DVD may be a DVD-9, you need to transcode that DVD to fit a DVD-R (DVD-5)

    For free software use :

    DVDDecrypter
    DVDShrink
    AutoShrink ISO

Apparently DVDShrink 3.1.7 beta 5 now included the ability to rip protected DVD's, so you may not need DVDDEcrypter anymore......

But I always rip with DVDDEcrypter as it works everytime for me, you'll find your own method eventually !

Make sure you clean the disc. If worse comes to worse you could try creating an image using Alcohol 120%, as it's able to skip read errors. Your picture might end up being distorted in parts but at least you can copy it.
