  1. Hi guys,

I recently had the opportunity of ripping a DVD.

I wanted to make a DVD-R backup of the original DVD, so I used DVDDecrypter, with the intention of using DVDShrink after, to shrink to 4.7GB and then burn to DVD-R.

The problem is, (as I've now discovered by reading the DVDShrink rip guides and 'DVDDecrypter-with-intention-to-then-use-DVDShrink' guides), is that I ripped the DVD in "IFO" mode instead of "FILE" mode.

The guides say that for the files to work correctly with DVDShrink, FILE mode must be used.

It's clear then that since I ripped in IFO mode, I cannot use DVDShrink to shrink the files and burn back to DVD-R. (an error appears of this nature indicating that this is the case).

So, if I cannot use DVDShrink, what else can I use?

P.S. When I ripped the DVD in IFO mode, I only grabbed the main feature, the duration was about 1:50 as indicated by DVDDecrypter.

I would still like to be able to burn this back to DVD-R, into DVD-Video format (so I can use it on a stand-alone player). What software will be capable of this?

Thanks alot for reading, hope that I can gain some help on this.

    All the best, TheJackalHouse.

Could you not delete the files you have ripped and then rip the dvd again in file mode?

I fell into that trap once, give this a try, stick any dvd in and rip all files other than the main movie files and stick them into the same folder with your main movie files, start shrink and use the open file option, once shrink has analysed go through the reauthor mode and select the title to backup. Shrink will look a little weird with movie files from one disk and menus and extras from another but just select the title and preview it to check that you have the right files and use shrink as normal. Hope this helps.

DVD2ONE upto version 1.30 can compress from ifo "rips",it is a pay program. You could download IFOEDIT,it can make the missing files needed to turn your ifo rip into a file rip. Rename the files VTS_01_1.VOB.etc. This is necessary for the files to work as IFOEDIT will use VTS_01 by default and all files must use the same VTS.
IFOEDIT has a create IFO option. Another program called DVDfab could also create the needed files.

You should use DVD shrink only. Latest version has DVD Decryptor embedded.
