DVD Ripper Doesn't Rip Full DVD

The subject pretty much explains it. I use E.M. DVD Copy, but it only actually rips less than half of the DVD. Am I doing something wrong or is it the fault of the ripper?

Trying ripping with the free DVD Fab Decrypter. If you want to convert to another format like AVI, try Handbrake.

I've never heard of your ripper, which is a sure sign that it's not very good. Some American studios such as Disney and Sony use a type of copy protection on DVDs that is very difficult to crack. It's called ARCCOS. ARCCOS gets changed all the time so rippers have to be updated constantly to keep up with the changes. Only commercial rippers like AnyDVD and DVD Fab Decrypter keep up with the changes. DVD Fab's free version runs 6 months behind the pay version, so do note that if your DVD was recently released and ARCCOS is your problem that the free version of DVD Fab probably won't be able to rip it right now.

Since you told us nothing about what you are doing other than what program you used I cannot rule out operator error, but most likely you have the issue I have talked about above. Rippers that can't deal with ARCCOS typically stop at some point during the rip which seems to be what you are seeing.

Is there a reference for this or is it from personal experience? If there's a difference between the free and paid versions as far as what copy protections DVD Fab defeats, then it's not mentioned on their website and I can't find anything about it elsewhere. You would think they'd advertise it if there was a difference since it adds to the paid version's functionality.

IMHO ANYDVD is better at ripping & updates regularly!

AnyDVD doesn't have a free version. Most people will be fine w/ DVDFab HD Decrypter (or DVD43 if they need the background driver flexibility).

I always took that quote as sort of a CYA measure, especially when considering all the people who expect to be able to rip a movie within ten minutes of it hitting the store shelves. There's no guarantee they'll be able to find a way to break new protection schemes right away, so why not tell the customers they can at least expect updates to cover it within a month or two?

Three weeks isn't forever. 30-60 days to wait, especially when it only applies to a handful of new releases, is not a big deal. It's also pretty fair to the creators of DVDFab, though I don't understand why they're not mentioning it on their main site (just their forum) since it makes the paid version more attractive than before. I don't wanna pay $50 for AnyDVD. I don't do this enough/get enough new releases to worry about this DVDFab HD Decrypter wrinkle. I will still do fine with DVDFab HD Decrypter (and DVD43 when I need the background driver functionality). If the day came that I needed AnyDVD to rip something, which has never happened, I'll download the trial. I'm not going to buy AnyDVD. Most people here who know about DVDFab know about AnyDVD. If they want to buy AnyDVD, they will, but I don't and I'm not going to, so please stop shilling it so aggressively because it's getting monstrously annoying.

Also: Most people don't need the driver functionality. It's better to rip the the DVD to the HDD first before using DVD Shrink, Nero Recode, DVD ReBuilder, etc. I can't think of anything that would require the driver functionality other than using IsoBuster or IsoPuzzle. If you want to play another region's disc and don't have region-free firmware, then DVD43 will work fine.

And your shilling is still annoying.
