  1. All of a sudden I can't open up mpgs in Tmpgenc. Actually I can open small mpgs but long ones cause tmpgenc to freeze the moment I click on the file. The interface sort of freezes with some of one window and some of the next. My hard drive light blinks and blinks. After a few minutes I give up and reboot my computer.

It has worked fine up until this started.

I found a thread where someone had a different problem but someone told him how to stop win XP from "previewing" mpgs before opening them. I didn't think it applied so I didn't bookmark the thread. Now I'd like to try that solution. Does it ring bell with anyone?

    This is very strange.

  2. I had a similar problem awhile ago on Win2k. After installing PowerDVD v.4 it went away, so I didn't bother looking into this further. I remember though that PowerDVD v.3 didn't help.

  3. I have Power DVD 5

I just noticed that the problem seems to only apply to files that are on my C drive. Files that are on my G drive work fine. I recently changed where I keep my video files so maybe this problem was there all along but didn't effect me untill I moved my video files to C.

I'd still like to fix it so I can work with files on either drive.

  4. Maybe you have a real-time anivirus scanning running on drive C or some other program that uses the drive in the background.

This sort of addresses a simillar problem, but it has to do with avi files.

  6. I don't have anti virus running in the background. I even ran "End It All" and didn't see any difference.

The thread about avi's is the one I originally looked at but seeing it again it seems unlikely to be my problem. Thanks for finding it.

I'll try to see if I can get some really specific examples of the problem.

Do you have the TMPGEnc MPEG-2 Plugin installed? You might want to get it if you don't.

My file play fine in PowerDVD. They only freeze Editing Programs and only when the file resides on C. I think I have a hard drive problem.

Thanks for all the good ideas. I'm hoping something will jog my mind and I'll suddenly realize it is something simple.
