Have transfered some Dv footage via windv as an avi file. All seemed well when transferering, could see picture & hear sound on WINDV, but when playing back the AVI through Windows media player there is no sound??

I chose "type 2 vids & Auds" on the capturing menu, as I read in one the guides on here.

Does anyone know what im doing wrong?

  2. check the avi with gspot or mediainfo and see if the audio track is there. it should be pcm wav. it may be a playback issue with wmp, try vlc.

The audio track is there as I have also transfered it via Cyberlink power director & it played back no problem. It is dv from my camvorder.

Just checked, there is no sound in vlc Player either & G spot says the audio codec is pcm

Some dv camcorders are set for 12bit recording, while many players and editors work with 16bit. Check the audio default settings on your camcorder.

I had the camcorder recording in 16 bit mode

  6. if you are using powerdirector, it has a nasty habit of grabbing all audio and not releasing it until you close it. try again after shutting down powerdirector.

If you used the camera controls from WinDV, you can have a problem getting the audio. This is a known bug. What you need to do is start the camcorder with it's own controls, then press "Capture" in WinDV.
