I capture all my VHS (homevideo) tapes w/ my ATI All-in-Wonder
The final result is a 352x480 MPEG2 video that's in perfect sync with the audio. If I use DVDlab to make the DVD it's still in sync. But the issue presents itself when I when any kind of merge&cut is performed to the video file (using either MPEG-VCR or TMPGnc). The video is still in perfect sync, but now if I compile a cd from it, the sound is horribly of sync, at some points in the dvd video, it won't even play sound.
What could be possibly to wrong? Timecode on GOP? I've already tried using DVDLab's utility and it only made it worse. Any ideas?

It's pretty common knowledge that editing(or trying to edit)
MPEG files is an excercise in frustration.
Editing should be done in AVI. -
I don't want to extensively edit the video, I just want to cut and Merge to fill up the DVD. I have 40+ VHS tapes, that would take forever, I need a simpler solution. Thanks for the help though

I'm having an even simpler problem with Audio sync. I read what the problem might be, but I already know the problem.
I've read some about audio sync problems but really found no solutions --yet --
I'm importing/Capturing files using an ATI card and software with on the fly MPEG2.
File plays perfect
I convert the audio track to .AC3 format and import both the video and AC3 Audio to DVD Lab. NO editing at all. no joining. nothing except for the AC3 Audio conversion.
I create the DVD files in DVD Lab. The individual files created by DVD lab play in perfect sync in 3 different DVD player programs.
I burn the disc using Nero.
Now here's the strange part. When I play the disc, the Audio/Video goes in and out of sync. mostly out but at certain points, is perfectly in sync.
I've created a few DVD's with smaller files with no problems. It's just the long files.
My system is Win XP pro
1 gig ram
Shuttle An35 mobo
internal drives - Maxtor 250 Gig and WD 200 gig NTSF
External drive - firewire Maxtor 160 gig
Can someone direct me to a post that deals with solutions to audio sync problems ? Or at least to some all encompasing software that will actually make a DVD that works?
I mean right now, I have a bunch of trials and shareware and I don't intened to pay for any of them because they require 5 other programs to do what would seem to be a simple task.

I had similar issues, I was directly capturing television to VCD Mpeg-1 using an ATi AIW128 card, audio was fine, when I used a cutter to cut and remove comercials the audio went to hell.
To compenstate, I started capturing to 352x240 HuffYUV, cutting the comercials out in Vdub, and FrameServe the cut video to Tsunami Mpeg Encoder. Sorta the long way to go about it, but it worked.
