  2. Huh ?

Not quite sure what u r trying to ask ?

But, all DTS DVDs MUST have an AC3 track on them so if your that worried about space you could rip the dvd and only rip the AC3 soundtrack.

  3. If you don't have the space for DTS you might as well just use DD 5.1..as it is just one step down from DTS in the compression department..or perhaps i should say one step UP in the compression department . There are also subtle differences in the arrangement at times as well..but I think you will need to comply with one standard or the other. I have not actually used a DTS encoder although I would very much like to but I'm not sure what flexibility you have as far as choosing bitrates and such...

If the DVD has a DTS track, then it will also have an AC5.1 track (there's a 0.00001% chance it would have DTS and AC2.0). The DTS is roughly 2x as big a AC5.1 or so?

  5. dts audio can not be compressed, its very nature is to be uncompressed, and such of higher quality. Unfortanely you have to have an ac-3 soundtrack as well. If you want only dts, you will have to create a 2.0 ac-3 and then use the dts soundtrack, but your video could suffer because of dts massive size.

Actually, by it's very nature DTS is compresssed. Granted the compression algorythm is a very good one, but none the less, it is a compressed lossy format. How do you think you can put 6 channels of audio on a CD that normally only has enough room for 2.

  7. Well ops, thats what you get for typing real quick and not even thinking. I ment to say that dts is not as compressed as Dolby Digital. Of course it is compressed, but not as much as Dolby Digital.

The only way to do this would be to demux the DTS track down to 6 mono wav files (one for each channel), then remux at a lower sampling rate. I know that Surcode and Nuedo can create the DTS tracks from the mono files, but I don't know if they can demux.

I have noticed that on some DVDs there is an empty (0 byte size) AC3 track, which can be used to allow the DTS track to be included without keeping the full DD5.1 version as well.

  9. I'm not sure exactly what you are trying to do, but nero re-code will put an entire DTS movie on to a DVD-5 with little or no loss in picture or sound. At least none that I could tell.

DTS is only available as (48kHz) 768kbps or 1536kbps. The vast majority of DVDs with DTS use 768kbps. Most of the AC3 5.1 tracks are 448kbps, but some are 384kbps. You must have an AC3 track, DTS is optional.

What you can do is try using the AC3 stereo track & a DTS track to get some more video quality. You can also remove extras if you haven't already done that.

While DTS is superior to AC3, the video is still much more important. Only use the DTS in conjunction with atleast a 1.0 AC3 track (although most will will release a 2.0, and a 5.1 AC3, then a commentary track [2.0]). The 2.0 is usually 192kbps, but could be 224kbps. (or vice versa?).

why cant u have a DTS only disc (w/out AC3, 2.1, 5.1)? its seems to me that as long as u have a DTS decoder, it will play.

if i remember right i even tested this by putting the DTS "trailer" (small vid clip w/ the piano insides, etc.) on a disc w/ only a DTS audio stream and it played the audio
