Hi just thought I'd introduce myself and ask for help with prpbably the first of encoding problems, I've tried as many articles as I can find and can't get a final solution, I've tried many things including YAAI to correct the sync problem but no luckthe problem is'nt with the avi as this runs np in m/player 9, after checking the f.a.q at pegasus they recommend disabling the cri codec in envoiremental settings because theres a conflict with TMPGEnc dvd author using the same encoder and to use the mpeg2 codecs by lygos or cybernet, when I check using gspot it says that the codecs are installed but they don't show up in the vfapi reader in envoiremental settings so I can't tick the boxes.
Anybody help me out?

a little bit more info would be helpful such as:
what are the details of the avi you're trying to encode.
the process/es you're taking to encode the file.
what settings you're using to encode the file
what framerate is the file you're encoding
what is the sample rate of the audio file
etc etc etc. -
The best and simple answer to audio sync problems is to extract the audio to an uncompressed wav file using virtualdub and use that as your audio source in TMPGenc Plus.
It is likely that your avi has VBR audio and TMPGenc can't handle that too well , hence use a wav file.
That will most likely solve your problem. -
If your source is an avi then you should scan and remove any bad frames, link below.

theres a lot to take in, I've already tried extracting the wav with audiodub and did'nt get any better results,I've put in some more file details to see if this helps,
Video codecvid
bitrate : 1235kbps/25000 fps
audio codec mp1 layer 3
bitrate :148 kb/s fs 48000 Hz
sorry for the quick post, not much detail but I should get a bit more time to go through your suggestions 2morrow. -
I've solved the problem with the lygos decoder not showing up in my vfapi reader after reinstalling TMPGEnc it was there
I tried encoding the avi again by extracting the wav with audiodub and then adding them separately but unfortunately I gorgot to uncheck the cri decoder, the resulting dvd was the worst for audio sync yet, I'm glad I got a dvd-rw disc otherwise it would have been another coaster
a couple of things that have crossed my mind were if the original avi is at 25fps does that mean I need to encode in pal? when adding the wav and avi as seperate files which setting do I want ES video+audio or system video+audio? and when I extracted the wav with audiodub it gave a warning about VBR and skew so I encoded it with cbr although a lot of articles strongly reccomend 2pass vbr, would encoding in vbr affect the audio/movie sync?
Thanks for help I'll get there -

ES = elementary streams, 2 seperate files are produced - M2V video and MP2 audio.
System = an mpeg file containing audio and video is produced.

cheers m8 I'm back on track
I'll have another shot at it tonight, I've only got a 1.4 duron cpu at moment so even a medium quality encoding takes between 6/8 hours
so I have to leave it overnight and try results in the morning btw you have a link in your posts to a way of removing bad frames with audio dub but do I need to d/load the mpeg2 version as I have the mod version? there seems to be a lot of different version of this software available.
And I will get there eventually honestthe technophobe is back.
