    I've watched quite alot DVD movies on my Flat CRT monitor for awhile now, and am very pleased with the quality. Just wanna know if it's true that watching a DVD movie on the PC is better than a $2,000 HDTV or equivalent? I think HDTV resolutions aren't as high as PC monitors, am i correct?

  2. I'd say not, watching movies on a PC monitor sucks.... DVD's resolution is no better than 720X480 (NTSC) and all HDTV's are higher than that. I rather watch movies on a regular TV over a PC monitor.

    Very subjective answers will come of this.

    I hate watching movies on my computer. After a hour or two it begins to hurt my eyes. I always watch movies on my TV.

    Your question is only asking us for opinions, so expect some funky ones.

    DVD movies I sometimes watch on a computer monitor. But it can't beat a regular tv at viewing them. You ever seen a dvd at 1600x1200? Horrible.

    Ditto. Staring at a computer screen especially a CRT monitor makes me dizzy.

    TV is better by far. my DVD player does a WAY better job of decoding the video than my PC. plus the colour depth is corret. and i don't have "whirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr rrr" in my ear. and if i need to go out i just hit "off" and my dvd player remembers where i was. all good stuff.

    do watch some TV shows and stuff on PC (watched two series of stargate in one weekend!) and yeah, eyes hurt after not very long.

    well you gotta figure that the movies were designed in the first place to be watched on a tv. yes computers have way more potential, but anything only works as good as its made for. problem 1 is that they dont make moniters big enough to sit in the living room. in the near future it will all be integrated. but for now, the theatre is in the living room. and, the computer is in the work room.

    I'm not asking if you prefer the sofa or the pc chair. I still think a decent $150 monitor will beat a $1,000+ TV.

    What's with all these bias replys?

    I believe that the typical DVD is made for an interlaced TV, and a PC monitor is progressive. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't that make it better suited to be watched on a TV?

    plus a PC monitor is designed to display VGA video, not the quirky stuff a TV is. DVD is designed to be viewed on a TV. that's all there is to it.

    That is because your monitor can't handle resolution that high, there for, it will lag.

    TV=25fps
    DVD=25fps
    PC=60hz

    I don't know what you're smoking, but watching a DVD on my Flat 17" CRT monitors beats all TV's in my house combine by far, although i don't own a HDTV. The color on the monitor is superior. If you walk up closely on the TV you'll see tiny little fuzz dots, but on the monitor it eliminate all that and it's nice, clear, and sharp.

    I have a 65" HDTV with a DVI port that I sometimes hook to my PC instead of my LCD. I don't really notice much difference using my computer to watch a DVD on it VS. using my regular DVD Player through S-Video. Watching my DVDs on my monitor can get really irritating to the eyes. My regular monitor is a 21.5" LCD.

    I've seen it before. He doesn't have any friends, so there's nobody to tell about his shiny new 17" flat CRT monitor. Hell, his user name sums it up.

    He just wants an audience so he can brag about his new toy. He isn't interested in hearing what anyone else says.

    Maybe after hitting puberty he'll dig up some of his old posts and, in an embarassed silence, fade away, never to be seen again :P

    Yeah, -I'm- the one giving pointless biased answers. you'll notice i list a series of facts, and you list an opinion. just because -YOUR- TV sucks donkey balls doesn't mean mine does. you said yourself "i don't own a HDTV" so you are the one being biased. you can't make a direct comparison, wheras others can.

    If you want -help- making your TV picture look better, give us some details and we'll help you out.

    Obviously my penis is bigger than yours.

    Better yet, list the DVD player in the correct forum and get some better direct feedback. Reserve OFF TOPIC for things like sex, gay bashing, Capmaster, odd associations with no point, and people who have a lot of spare time on their hands. We don't want to corrupt this forum with non-pertinent threads.
