More info please. What did you use to convert the avi to mpeg and what specs did you use such as the resolution bitrate and type(mpeg 1 or 2)? Also, what program did you use to burn?

well see im new at this.
i used AVI TO MPEG CONVERTER..which was bad b.c it made the audio like not match the video
i burned it as MPEG1, i didnt choose bitrate or anything
    i burned it using ASHAMPOO

You're better off using a real mpeg encoder like TMPGEnc. Decompress the audio to wav first by opening the movie with Virtualdub, go to the audio menu and select "full processing mode", go to file and select "save wav". Use the wav file as the audio source in TMPGEnc. Use the project wizard and select either the VCD or SVCD template. VCD can fit up to 80 minutes of video, SVCD can fit around 45 minutes of video but gives better quality. Once you have your mpeg created, burn with Nero using either the VCD or SVCD template, depending on the kind of mpeg you made with TMPGEnc.

Nope, sorry. Another program you can use is VCDEasy. You can find a freeware version on this page. You'll have to go into the settings to get your drive to work with it. Go to File>Settings>CD Writer and select "generic-mmc" as the write driver. VCDEasy isn't as simple to use as the name implies but it's relatively straight forward.

The only time I ever have TMPGenc freeze is when a downloaded AVI has 'bad frames'.

Assuming this is a downloaded AVI - you need to use virtualdub MP3 freeze to scan the avi for any bad frames and remove them.
This needs to be the first step with an AVI file before extracting the audio so you don't get sync probs later.

Did you see the frame moving while it was processing? How long did you wait after it said 100%? Sometimes it takes a little while after that point for the "finished" chime to sound. I've never quite understood why, but that's how it is.

I have had avi's so screwed up that a 90 minute film reported a 3 hour audio track. Something to do with the vbr header being corrupt. You get the same symptoms - video completes, but the processing continues past until the it thinks the audio is complete.

I would suggest trying to find a new version of the source video.

Actually, I was referring to changing the priority of the the Direct Show plug in in TMPGEnc's Environmental settings. Did you try that, and if you did, why didn't you say so?
