Ok even though i set my fox browsers cache to 2040MB, everytime i go back to a page it reloads whatever was there(text, images, etc).
Since i'm on dial-up half the time this is getting frustrating. Any ideas on what i can do to get firefox to hold onto stuff so i won't have to keep reloading it?

Have you cleared the temp internet files out lately?
Not positive but setting the cache that large may actually slow things down because you're comp has to see if it has it cached. I'd imagine it's indexed but 2GB's is going to create a pretty large index.
Lastly is all pages or just some? You can set images and files not to be cached server side and most browsers will respect it. -
Try this:
Enter "about:config" (without the quotes) in the address bar.
Under the "Preference Name" column. look for the following entry: browser.cache.check_doc_frequency
(or better yet, type "browser.cache.check_doc_frequency" (without the quotes) in the Filter box, and it should narrow the entries down)
...and see what value is listed under the Value column on the right.
0: Firefox checks for newer versions of a page once per browser session.
1: Firefox checks every time a page is viewed.
2: Never check (uses version of page stored in cache. Not recommended.)
3: Checks at predetermined intervals (default value).
If you want to change the value, right-click on the entry and select Modify. Note: Be VERY careful with this, as there's a lot more under-the-hood settings for you to alter in about:config than the ordinary Options.
Edit: Yes, is there a reason you need such a large cache, or did you just set it high in an effort to get the caching to work right? If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them? -

Odd. 3 is the default value, and 2 generally isn't recommended (you'll likely have to do a (manual) forced-reload on each page to make sure you have the latest version of the pages)... but has it had any effect on the refresh problem you mentioned above?
You really don't need that big a cache for Firefox (I'm not sure about the memory cache, though). As thecoalman mentioned, it'll mostly just slow things down... come to think of it, since your cache's so large, Firefox might be trying to look through it to see whether or not there's cached versions of everything, and that slowdown/processing might cause it to appear as if it's reloading everything, I don't know.
Unless you're visiting hundreds to thousands of pages in a relatively short time, 50-100MB should be - more or less - enough. It may also have an impact on Firefox's speed and memory usage.
I used to use Firefox (and the Mozilla Suite) on dialup all the time, with a giant bookmark file and history set to remember the last 150-200 days, but never had a problem with the default cache size.If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them? -
I had changed it to 2 but when i realized the potential error that might be, i just went back to what it was originally which was 3.
Then i decided to just uninstall firefox, redownload and reinstall it. Seems to be working better now.
Damn there should be some feature to enable where it saves everything in the cache allowed, but also can download newer stuff if the page is updated. -
It may help a little, try enabling pipelines. about:config, search for pipe, set both "true" default is "false". One is for proxy's I just set them both for "true". I leave cache at default. Make sure you don't have any cleaning pograms (crapcleaner, cleans cache by default) clearing your cache or Firefox's own "delete private data" set to delete cache on close.
This is based on a crappy 28.8 dialup rural phoneline users experience. -

I know, I know, it's working better now, so it's not really an issue. If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them?
