  1. when i try to load the mp2 in the main "open" of ffmpeg, mplayer bounces about in the dock then freezes, i have to force quit mplayer to get ffmpeg back.

this also happened when i tried to load an aiff to convert it to mp2, mplayer would freeze. do i need to reinstall mplay, it seems to work fine for video its only with audio that i have problems.

im trying to do a simple conversion of audio and it wont load the mp2 file (which was demuxed from an mpg using ffmpeg)

im trying to create a dvd using sizzle and mpeg-1 type files with 48k audio, is this the same as the s/vcd>dvd funtion in the registered version?

    as that didnt work

    thanks

  2. Try to enter this command in terminal mode, which result do you get?

    ls -l /usr/bin/mplayer

  3. -rwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 4597252 Sep 14 21:13 /usr/bin/mplayer

  4. The size should be 4658648, so you should reinstall it.

  5. i tried reinstalling the whole thing getting fresh mplayer etc

but when i run the command line it still give the same size

i have the mplayer osx but that looks like its a standalone player

when i found the files on sounforge there were a selection to choose from including one marked for use with ffmpeg, do i go for the ffmpeg bundle?

but i have found a work around, when i select the mp2 and then mplayer crashed, i force quit mplayer and that lets me use ffmpeg again, i then select from the presets audio file to mp2 (even though i knew that, perhaps ffmpeg thought it was a video file hence the mplayer thing) and that seemed to work, without selecting the preset it wouldnt.

The exact download link is given in the ffmpegX engines installer window.

  7. Hey Major,

I have the exact same problem where mplayer freezes up when trying to open an MP2 file. Force quitting mplayer and getting info on the MP2 file gives:

    Audio : Mpeg 1 layer 2
    Estimated Duration: 58:50.63s
    224 kbps 44100 Hz
    Frame size: 731 bytes
    Stereo, No emphasis, copy

Checking mplayer as you suggested in the previous post gives:

    -rwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 4658648 Sep 10 2003 /usr/bin/mplayer

I went ahead anyway and downloaded a new copy of mplayer (same size, new mod date, obviously) and reinstalled all the engines. Still mplayer hangs. So I then reran the ffmpegx installer (v. 0.0.9b btw), same response. I tried both dropping the MP2 file on the ffmpegx icon in the dock, and using the Open button.

I next tried the trick of force quitting mplayer and going ahead with the conversion to 48k. It's queued up at the moment so I am not sure if this is going to work or not - but it looks promising.

I know I have done this conversion before - don't know what version of ffmpegx I used, obviously it was not the currently installed version.

Hope the info helps, it's a great app and your response to problems is also great.

    Thanks, CGuy

  8. I have the latest mplayer, its byte count matches major's. Same problem, but when I force quit mplayer and get Info on the mp2 in ffmpegX the box reads, simply, "Alert:"

This will be an even bigger issue now that iTunes no longer accepts and converts .mp2s. The whole reason I'm here.

    Hope this helps,

    -MooVMaker

  9. Which version of ffmpegX are you running?

  10. Forgot to follow up on this. The conversion did work as I detailed it in the above post.

And, BTW, I tried another mp2 conversion where mplayer froze up. I didn't force quit it immediately - in fact I was in the middle of something else and didn't get to it for awhile. After about 2-4 minutes mplayer ended up quitting by itself and everything was back to normal. Strange, huh?

    CGuy
