According to manual you can do instant timer recording only using front panel (the 30min. increment timer). Is that correct?
I use it a lot (to avoid going through the timer menu hassle). So hopefully it can do this so it would be a good VCR replacement (my multi-system Aiwa is about to break down).

If you just hit the record button a few times, it'll go in (I think) 30 min increments, just like a VCR. It's in use (as usual), so cannot test for you.

Thanks. According to the manual you cannot (unless it's a Japanese translation error). Also checked other non-English manuals and all say you can't:
NOTES:
- You can only perform ITR using the 7 button on the unit’s
front panel.
