I am encountering the following problem when using the Timer Recording function to record a weekly TV program.

I enter the details to record the TV program and select "Weekly" as the timer Repeat option.

When checking the programming in the "Timer Record List" the check field only displays "OK" instead of "Rec OK" to confirm that the program has been successfully memorisized by the recorder.

When I change the Repeat option from "Weekly" to "Once" the recorder successfully memorises the program and "Rec OK" appears in the Timer Record List.

Why does the recorder not accept the weekly repeat instruction?

Any help or recommendations would be most welcome.

I have the same problem. The recorder does actually power up according to the weekly timer but then it powers down again immediately, ie. the recording never starts.

Also, I have an issue while using timeshift on an ongoing (non-weekly) recording. When choosing 'play' in the menu to start watching an ongoing recording, the menu system freezes and eventually the recorder powers down. Even worse, my ongoing recording are gone and never to be seen again !

    Plenty of space on harddisc.

Called LG support centre on 1800 643 156 and had the worst support ever.

Potential buyers be aware. If you want a reliable recorder, stay clear of this machine !!

I solved the problem by turning off the power saving option. This option turns off the power to the panel on the front of the machine, but it also turns off the time recording facility. This information *is* in the manual, but in an unintuitive location. I found it by downloading the manual from the LG website and doing a search of the electronic version. Since I have sorted out this problem (which is an example of poor manual writing rather than a problem with the machine) I have found the recorder to be very satisfactory, except that the hard disk is a little noisier than I would like.

How do I turn off Power Save mode? There is one reference to it under "Timer Recording" but no description of the feature or instructions on its use.

I too have the same problem as reported in this thread.
Funny thing is that "Weekly" worked well for several months - then I changed the timer recording schedule and "Weekly" no longer reports "Rec OK".

Has anyone else been able to overcome the problem?

You can turn off Power Save in the Setup Menu (it's the 5th item down).

Very curious. My Setup Menu does not have this option.
Auto Programming; Program Edit; Clock Sert; TV Aspect; Antenna Feed 5v; Initialization

    Software Version: 61020a 6.0.0.13

Thanks you Beatus for your response - assistance is always appreciated.

  8. BUYER BEWARE: Channel Info Changed message & SBS recording failure

I can’t believe the product in question, an LG DVD Player (Combo/Recorder)/RH2T80 are still for sale on the shelves?

Quite simply for the last 7 months of ownership the product has failed to record in one manner or another SBS programs. This is unacceptable now. SBS was contacted with no known problems (lets face it how many other brands of HDD recorder have this issue? I have strong signal strength.

Under the manufacturer warranty I have had the problem investigated by an authorised repairer (R & I Electronics, Morley, WA), on three occasions, having done their best to resolve and test the problem of recording on SBS if the tuner is set to any other channel other than SBS prior to recording.

It has been reset to factory default settings; firmware upgraded, had the circuit board replaced and according to the service report had a new Hard Disc Drive installed. The DVD Player had spent a combined time in repair of 10 weeks, which elapses the time that I have used it since opening the box.

The problem could not be rectified and as a result I was given a new DVD recorder via the repairer… which believe it or not also failed to record SBS if the tuner is set to any other channel at the time of recording.

I contacted LG formally in writing with no response to this matter. After 7 business days a telephone call was made to LG. The Customer Relations Manger was unavailable so “The Supervisor” informed me that the newly replaced DVD recorder should be taken back to the repairer and is considered a new problem irrespective of the last 6 months of problems – bollocks!

My wife got a phone call from LG sometime later (presumable the Customer Relations Manager) informing me that a software upgrade was on its way from Korea to address the problem. TOO LATE!

I sought advice from the Consumer Protection Division of Dept. Of Consumer Employment Protection as I was not happy with the way it was being handled. I sent a formal letter of complaint to the retailer outlining the story so far. The outcome was positive. I am now the ex-owner of an LG RH2T80 having returned it to the retailer. I swapped it for the latest Phillips DVDR5520H-75 (double my original HDD capacity+USB port+free 1 GB mp3 player promo). Guess what? It records on SBS (Ch03)!

Oh I did one last check before taking it back by rescanning the TV & HDD recorder channels then timer recording SBS & then swapping over to a channel other than SBS prior to recording. It worked in the morning but not in the afternoon. Flaky piece of crap - you’re going back!!

So don't persist - If after say 3 attempts to fix take it back to your retailer & move on with another brand.

The unit was picked up the next day and was gone for 5 days. When it was returned I noticed that it had firmware version 080711a (=July 11, -2008!?). It has now been a couple of weeks, all my scheduled recordings have worked and I still haven't seen a single "channel info changed" message! In case you wonder: all the recordings that were originally on the unit are still there.
update your unit to firmware version 080711a http://rapidshare.com/files/169974342/LG_RH2T8_UPDATE.rar.html

  10. I could have warned you against buying ANYTHING LG for that matter - their arrogant support is useless - and they are the worst to deal with - Check on FutureShop's reviews you will see not ONE positive review for the LG recorder.
