He means that windows prioritizes programs and uses more CPU cycles on some programs then others. You can manually adjust priorites in task manager. Depending on your os you'd access this by hiting control + Alt + Delete.

By default TMPGenc uses idle time only when its minimized. It essentially will only use left over CPU cycles not used by all other programs running on your pc. You can adjust this in TMPGenc by going to Option/task priority. If you want TMPGenc to run at the same speed as it does even when minimized, then switch the "when not active" option to normal priority.

  6. Tmpgenc has a setting in the Option menu, Task Priority, default its set to low priority when not active, so when tmpgenc is minimized Windows will give it low priority, and when you then do other things on the computer tmpgenc will come last in line, everything else will have higher priority. No matter what priority you use, its still the slowest encoder availabale =)

I think what makntraks was trying to point out is that TMPGEnc will run normally if you leave your computer alone whilst it is encoding. So instead of watching porn or gaming online, leave it to its own devices.

    ...Or adjust the priority settings.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Respectfully disagree. BBMpeg is way slower and if you're making VCDs, avi2vcd is also way slower...

  10. so if encoding speed is concern,

tmpgenc is not on the lead?

If you want speed, look into CCE

  12. Mainconcept is also a fast option, but cost more, i think $150, while CCE Basic cost only $58 and is both faster and better. The lack of filters and options in CCE is often a problem for newbies, so Mainconcept would usually be a better choice if money is not a problem.
