my computer won't play vcd movies

got given 6 vcd movies on verbatim cd-r 700 mb disks ( blue backs ). i use wmp7 and my cd-rom is sony cdu-701. this is the first time i've never been able 2 watch movies.....is it hardware or software related??? any help on subject would be greatly appreciated - thanx

Have you tried this...? Open Windows Media player - File > Open - Find the .DAT file in the Mpegav Folder on your VCD - Click Open... You have probably already tried this but did not say in your post. If not, hope this helps. This is how I open my VCDs to play on my computer and have had no problem.
