Hi
I am currently in the process of backing up my VHS collection to DVDr using a DVC2 capture card! I am authoring with tmpg dvd author. I know the DVC2 had some major sync issues but I have applied the reg fix and since have had no problems! This problematic capture is just under an hour and a half and I have done longer captures on the same hardware with no hassle! I'm using win2k pro!
I have so far done 6 videos with no problem at all!
I am having major audio sync problems with 1 specific VHS, I am using the same capture settings as before and the captured mpeg2 file plays perfectly in sync! However after I author it with tmpg the audio seems to start OK but then go really badly out of sync after a while!
I thought i may have somehow corrupted tmpg so gave it a try with ifo edit and it's turning out with the same audio sync problem!
I formatted the partition that I capture on and recaptured and I still have the same problem!
I took the file to another PC and tried to author there...same problem
I tried a different VHS using the same hardware and settings and this authors with no audio sync problems at all...it seems to be only a capture from this particular VHS??
This has really confused me, I don't see how a problem like this could be caused by the cassette I'm capturing from if it all plays OK before authoring
I tried editing the file down with womble mpeg-vcr to see if this would cause a sync problem and it doesn't! File plays OK after I do that![]()
If anyone has any ideas about what may be causing this i would be very grateful! I'm at a complete loss!

If you can recapture the video the easiest way might be to simple capture in 3-4 short clips instead of one big file. You state the audio is in sync at first but toward the end of the file it goes out. By capturing 'that' tape in shorter clips might be the easiest fix. They can always be combined by adding them to the same track list in Author.
If you want to try and repair the sync in this file here's a guide I've used before. This may help. https://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/140540.php
When checking a MPG file for sync I always play it in VirtualDubMPEG2. If it's OOS it will show up in VD where media player may not show the problem.
Good luck -
Try editing your captured file with VideoReDo prior to authoring to dvd. I had the exact same problem with my Hi-8 videos captured with a PVR-250. Sound is in perfect sync in the captured mpeg2 file, but any editing or simply authoring to dvd would throw off the sync. I tried a multitude of different mpeg editing/repair programs, and it wasn't until VideoReDo came along that I finally found a solution.

Thanks dooger problem solved
I edited the captured mpeg with videoredo and authored the edited file this time with no loss of audio sync!! I can't thank you enough for this.. I was just about to give up! lol, and to think the solution was so fast and simple
Thanks everyone for the suggestions! -
With VHS you will encounter the occasional problem tape. I've found that commercial VHS tapes give me more trouble with lip sync than ones I've recorded. I've even had one or two that are out of sync, even with a TBC
Glad you got it solved.

Does anyone have any idea why specific vhs tapes would cause this problem? Or is it just one of the great unknowns?
