  1. Hey all,
I have noticed that most all of my backups are exactly the same size as the original DVD (every file inside the folder matched sizes up exactly.) But recently I backed up (Family Guy Season 3 disks 1,2,3) all have a little different size. When I open up the VIDEO_TS folder, the media files are all the same size but (I think it's the menus) are off by 2 kb here and there. like an 18 kb on the original comes out as 20 kb on my backup. What is more odd is that the backup is a smaller size than the original! (like an 8.1 gig file comes out as 7.9 gig.) That's more than just a couple kb difference... where is the extra size missing? (it it possible that is how much encoding was left off? (I am not sure how that works) Anyone know what's going on? the disks seem to play fine, but I wanted to make sure they were complete. Thanks!

I would guess it's because your HD is bigger than a DVD, so it uses different sized sectors. For instance a file on a floppy appears smaller than the same file on a CD.

As for the 8.1 GB to 7.9 GB change, try comparing the size of the VIDEO_TS folders only. Sometimes, DVDs are mastered w/ more space taken than is required to hold the files contained on them, for some strange reason.
I like systems, their application excepted. (George Sand, translated from French), "J'aime beaucoup les systèmes, le cas d'application excepté."
