  1. hi,
i am trying to make a menu for a dvd i am making, and i have a compatible sound and video file that imports fine.
the video has a little photo montage type thing before the actual part where you can select things. i want to have the whole thing play through once then jusy loop from where the options are. when i set the slider under playback options to where i want it to loop from then test it by authoring it to a file on my hard drive, it doesnt loop from that point, it loops the entire thing and thats not what i want it to do. how can i fix this?
    thanks!

  2. you have to make it as a dummy menu. The slider on the bottom does not control where your menu will replay from. The slider on the bottom controls when the buttons on your live action menu can become active (selectable by the dvd remote). This is one of the minor things that this
program cannot do and Sonic Scenarist can.

but lets fix your problem, you would need two clips of your menu. One clip (lets say menuA) having the photo montage and the menu that you want to play once. You would then need another clip (menuB) of just your menu options

You would set it up as follows. Using menuA have it set like you currently have it-- move the slider to where you would want the buttons to be active. NOW just to the left of that slider you will see a choice called "timeout". Check that box and have the timeout set to 0.

Next make another menu using menuB. Move the slider as such but this time have the choice set to "loop".

after this you have to view the connection screen. If its not already showing, go under "view" and check connections. Now scroll along and you will see the links for menuA. One of them will just say "timeout". On that one, on the right column of it, make sure you input "menuB".

What you have just done is this. It starts playing menuA and plays it once. Once it is done playing, the timeout factor comes in and it now jumps to menuB where it will loop indefinitely.

By setting the timeout to 0 for menuA it will not waste any seconds and appear more of seemless jump to it.

If you do not want anyone at all to be able to select any buttons on menuA, until menu B starts. Then just dont draw any buttons on menuA, it will still play and jump to menuB.

  3. hmm, alright thanks. i will try this!
would there b a slight delay when the dvd player searches for menuB on the disc while it is playing? or would it be quite quick? also, for menuA, would i just set a blank subpicture? or do i not need to put one at all?

    maybe i should learn scenartist...

  4. it would be quick as you are setting it to zero seconds, you may not even notice it on the player when it happens.

Unless you are going to allow for button selection during menuA, then no you do not need a subpicture.
