  1. I am currently running a AMD 2000+ XP (palmonio) cpu.

My question can i use the heatsink that can with my 2000+ on a AMD 2600+ XP (Thoroughbred) cpu?

would there be any problems that i should be aware of in doing this.

    thanks

well make sure you apply fresh thermal paste and i'm sure it will be ok.

Instal mother board monitor 5.0 and keep an eye on your temps - if they hit 50 when idle it's worth getting a new heatsink/fan.

  3. I'd be carful using an old heatsink. Make sure you don't scratch the bottom of the heatsink when removing a pad/thermal paste. Otherwise it won't work well at all. Heatsinks have to be flat with no imperfections. That's why some people even 'sand' their heatsinks to get it flatter.

The heatsink itself should beable to cool a Thoroughbred since Palmonios ran a little hotter.

  4. Having said that, new heatsink and fan assemblies don't cost much at all. A Coolermaster XDream would do your 2600 no bother - that's what my other machine runs and it peaks at 38 deg C. The XDream was £5 or £6 the last time I looked on www.ebuyer.com - that's very good value considering its just a couple of quid more than a real bog-standard one. It has a speed control too, which makes it fairly quiet.

If your temperatures get too high, that's a cost-effective solution for you.
