  1. I'm doing some editing on mpeg 2 files and I don't want to lose the 6ch sound. I am using Womble mpeg2 vcr because it will save your edited videos without re-encoding or loseing your 6 ch sound. But it is getting very buggy and is starting to drive me insane

Is there any other editors out there that will do the same without the bugs?

Vitec DVD toolbox Video Clip Mpeg 2 Pro will edit mpeg2 and ac3 files with out re-encoding either one .. though with ac3 it will only cut them - not combine them .. , with mpeg2 it will fully edit them frame or gop or nearest I frame method (you choose) ..

good luck finding it though -- but still one of the best programs out there for this ..

sony vegas 4 with dvd architect works with 5.1 (make sure u have dvd architect and not regular vegas). i dont know about vegas 5.

ulead dvd workshop 2 supports 5.1 as well, but i use it only for authoring, not editing.

vegas will not edit mpeg2 (without re-encoding) and will not import or edit ac3 files either.. though of course it can create both .. so that doesnt really answer the first posters question ..

premiere pro now has a plug in which enables editing mpeg2 without re-encoding (by main concept) ..

thats weird...when i capture with my tv wonder, i record in mpeg2 then load into vegas for editing and it works fine. are you sure its not in .vob but .mpg? vegas has issues loading files with a .m2v or .vob extension.

when you load a mpeg into vegas (which has to be in program stream or a VOB or a transport stream) .. and try to edit it -- vegas will ALWAYS re-encode it... no doubt of that at all

  8. How about Ulead Media Studio Pro 7. You can create all kinds of different video files with the ability to customize the rendered output. It has dolby AC-3 but I haven't used it yet.
