  1. I just recieved a nec 2500a via newegg and a 50pack of unbranded ridata g04s

installed it and went to burn my first dvd using nero 6.3.0.6, loaded the video_ts folder, then hit burn. it did the first loading test (checks the location of the data i believe) then nero froze, only way to get rid of it was to restart. Then i tried the last nero 5 version that came out.. forgot the number, that also did the same extact thing. Then i tried using tmpegenc dvdauother to burn a dvd, it also froze. Then i tried clonedvd, and managed to burn 2 dvds. But now even clonedvd freezes right at the start.

After each time it will say 'reading data' or similar depending on program, then the burner and hdd light will come on for about 30 secs, then they will both go off and the program will be frozen.

    my system is as follows
    windows XP Pro SP1
    XP 2000
    gigabyte 7dxe
    638mbs pc 2100
    80 gig seagate baracuda (primary)
    80 gig wd
30 gig wd( on a ide controller card)
NEC 2500a (using the old stock 1.06 firmware)
    Lite on 56x
    Radeon 9800 pro 128mb ver

All drivers are updated and dma mode is enabled on all drives.

am i doing something wrong or did i just get a bad drive?

  5. Not familiar with your motherboard, but if you have nvidia ide drivers installed you might want to uninstall and go back to the microsoft xp drivers.

  8. the best way is to install it into another pc, see what happens.....
you should be able to find somebody with an available slot.....

if it works...then it's your system the problem, if not, it's the burner. this is what I would do first...

    good luck

Look, let me explain something. I'm not Mr. Lebowski; you're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the Dude. So that's what you call me. That, or Duder. His Dudeness. Or El Duderino, if, you know, you're not into the whole brevity thing--

  10. Have one on a Nforce 2 XP P1 with all updates and latest Nforce drivers.

Have not tested nero 5 or 6 but the burner software in Tmpge Autor works well with junk 4x media from Frys.

Will try a version of Nero 5 { latest } soon.
