Im using Cyberlink DVD suite 6...reason being its the only software that doesnt give me DVDs that skip, plus it came with my PC. Also using Verbatim DVD+R disks 4.7GB capacity.
Im trying to burn a DVD that says its 1.2GB but when I put it into the DVD burning software, it says "exceeds media space" plz use media with a larger capacity or something along those lines.
And the little graph thingy shows it to be like 5.5GB. The movie is only 90 some minutes long, so it cant be the length (I dont think)....anyone have any ideas?
Only certain files are doing this, but I cant tell what sets apart one that exceeds to one that fits (same file type etc.....)
Thanks in advance for any tips, insight.

Drop it into MediaInfo, tree view and see how big the DVD file really is. Single layer DVDs are 4.37GB, not 4.7GB. If your file is smaller than 4.37GB, then it should work.
The running time is irrelevant, the bitrate determines the finished size. If the file 1.2GB, then either it's small enough, or your software is reading the size wrong or it's being re-encoded to the wrong size.
I would recommend ImgBurn for burning. -
ImgBurn skips on my machine....I got a dozen Disks that are just a mess. was using DVDFlick with imgburn and it was producing garbage. I downloaded the Media Info and it says the file I was inquiring about (a diff one than I mentioned, but one that "exceeds" as well) and it says its 699MiB. Should fit, right?

I think someone needs to lay off the "jedi mind tricks"

You would be the very rare user that has problems with ImgBurn. But there seems to be some odd problems here. If your burning program says a 699MB file won't fit on a 4370MB DVD, something is wrong with that program. And there are other freeware programs beside DVDFlick that work as well. FAVC is one, but I prefer ConvertXtoDVD as it's never failed me. It has it's own burning engine also. It's payware, but worth the investment, IMO.

Yep, that was the reason for my little "joke"...
I was just in my usual SA mood
Exactly!!
I have used DVDFlick enough time to count on one hand but never had a problem with it.
I also have pretty much used ConvertXtoDVD 99% of the time when needed to convert any type of file to DVD, and even though the many times i have used the built in VSO burning engine, again, about 99% of the time i just output to a VIDEO_TS folder and then use ImgBurn to burn.
The first thing i thought was you were using crappy media, but then i saw you said you were using Verbatim, so i odds are something else is wrong, your burner, something on your pc, something is conflicting or messing with imgburn, hardware problem ?
But ImgBurn is definitely NOT the problem. -
His problem is that he's taking a 699MB (or 1.2GB) AVI and using some default setting of a crappy conversion program that's telling him the resulting size will be too big for a DVD5. The obvious answer is not to use Cyberlink whatever and use a real program, one such as AVS2DVD or DVDFlick (both freeware). The fact that the 'source' AVI will fit has nothing to do with the size once converted to DVD compliant files. That's all about the bitrate. A good program will figure out the bitrate needed to keep it under DVD5 size.

Or better yet,
- use ConvertXToDVD ($50),
- and ImgBurn,
- and using good quality blank DVDs.
