  1. Hi guys,
I saw in the DVD player compatability links that the ROTEL RDV985 is compatible with DVD+R media. I have backed up DVD to DVD+R media and they don't read in my ROTEL. I have tried them on a PC and on a Toshiba and they worked fine.

My recorder is an LG and the model is GSA-4081B.
I am using Verbatim DVD+R media.

I read something about bitstream that may be the problem but I didn't quite understand everything and the software bitstream doesn't work on my DVD recorder.

    I have the following questions:
-Should I use another brand of DVD media?
-How does bitstream work and is it possible to use on LG GSA-4081B?
-Anyone else with a ROTEL RDV985 that was able to read DVD+R, how did you do it?

Sorry for such a long post
    Thanks and Best Regards

You need to find a media that works with it. Try -R as well. Usually that's more widespread compatible then +R because it's an older format. Try different brands as well. Not all disks are made the same.

  3. Supposedly the ROTEL RDV985 is only compatible with DVD+R media. Also somebody mentioned this is the compatability lists. I will try with other brands - any suggestions as to which brand works best for you? I saw the post on What's the best brand? and became even more confused.

    Thanks for your reply
    Best Regards

I would still try a -R disc. NOT that they are hugely more compatible than +R's....it's just the circumstances. If +'s aren't working there is only one other option....-'s.

+R's from a DVD Recorder are VERY compatible.
-R's from a computer burner are VERY compatible.

I have an LG 4040B and a Philips DVDR985 Recorder. I use mainly -R's in my burner and obviously +R's in my Philips...I have never had anyone who has bought one of my DVD's e-mail me saying it will not work in their DVD player.....and that is for both the Philips created discs AND the computer burned discs.
