    are you doing movie only?

If the video_ts has say 13 files, but some of them are extras, the movie only method will obviously take them out.

    1. what app/method did you use to back up the video?
    2. what settings did you have in dvd2one?
    3. what is contained within the vobs you claim are missing?

Thanks galactica. When I click play on the mac a text comes up "not permitted", on the stand alone player the logo intro comes up then stops.

I have tried both main feature and complete disc on MTR and then movie only and disc copy on DVD2oneX eg: rip main feature MTR then select movie only on DVD2oneX. I have just ripped Mulan, movie only and after using movie only on DVD2oneX the last 2 files are missing in my processed folder? I am burning it on toast 6 anyway so I will see if it works when its finished, and I also dont know how to find out what is in a vob is either? or what a vob is for that matter
I have backed up about twenty discs with no problems after reading your sticky.

  4. just grasping at straws here but.... if a dvd5 (ie a 4.7gb dvd-r) is called a dvd5 cos it can only fit a max of 5 vobs on it (given that a vob is always no greater than 1gb), surely resizing the film to fit on a dvd5 is going to reduce it to 5 vobs, thus losing 6 and 7?

humdinger .. while an interesting theory, the name 'dvd5' has nothing to with the number of VOBs
turdburglar .. you can view VOB files with a player called VLC (which you can downlad from versiontracker.com)
or you can use Quicktime if you buy the mpeg2 component from Apple.

  6. Use VLC to figure out what those missing VOBs are. Just select them as files and hit play. If they are missing after the rip then look at the disc and make sure there are no scratches or dust. If there are, clean it or use the old toothpaste trick. (using a q-tip and a tiny bit of toothpaste will remove small scratches off the surface of a DVD) If they aren't and they are part of the movie that is missing, then re-rip with YadeX. Then try OSeX. Disney DVDs are notorious for their difficulty in ripping.

  8. I have bought apple QT mpeg 2 export components.
But when i played mpeg 2 files, i never get sound with it.
Is there anyway to grab the appropriate sound track.
VLC is much faster to play any mpeg 2 anyway, plus now it supports dts sound. So it is my first choice of mpeg2 player.

its because quicktime doesnt support the audio of that file.. even though it now supports the video aspect.
    what is the audio format?

What you are seeing is normal behavior for DVD2OneX and other shrinkers. Those last two VOBs in the Title Set are missing because their content has been compressed to fit into the VOBs 1-5. VOBs can only be 1 GB or smaller in size, and so the reduction in size of the total DVD (to fit it onto DVD-R media) has reduced the number of VOBs necessary to contain all the movie data. Don't worry about it. As for the 'not permitted' error, I'd say the problem is one of the following:
    • Error during ripping, though DVD2OneX usually complains in those cases.
•*Error burning to DVD-R, possibly in the wrong format
    • Permissions issue on the destination drive, where you're trying to play the movies from, which can be fixed by repairing the permissions on that drive using Disk Utility.
•*Not using DVD Player properly, which requires you to select the VIDEO_TS folder, not the VOBs or whatever.
I like systems, their application excepted. (George Sand, translated from French), "J'aime beaucoup les systèmes, le cas d'application excepté."
