  1. DVD Shrink, and everything works fine... Xbox recognizes the DVDs, plays them, and about half way though (sometimes 1/10 of the way though, or almost near the end) the DVD just cant read no more... The encoding gets messed up, and the rest of the disc cannot be played.

Also, on another note, upon trying to burn data to a DVD, often, it will burn all of the files, be "successful" (oops sorry, using Nero 6.3, forgot to mention that), and then, even though programs can find "data" on the disc... no "files" are on the disc... That is, nothing can see files on the disc nor access them but the disc is said to have 4.33 gigs on it with DVDinfoPro, and I can read the info on the disc in hex using ... Alcohol 120%, I believe...

Please help, im sick of killing DVDs, even though CompUSA lets me return the dead ones...

  2. Many people are going to tell you the following:
    Bad media
    Princos suck
Buy only Made in Japan media
    Buy riteks
    etc ....
Have a wonderfully crappy good day.
    Blah, blah, blah

  3. Quality media makes a difference in certain situations. Some drives can do fine with Princo and some don't.

It makes a world of difference with Optorite drives. They tend to be finicky. Especially with Princo.

  4. Thanks, but you know, I would think, neh hope, that one of the few types of media supported by the DD0201, would work on it... Are you saying that this is the only possible solution? I have had successful burns on the media, but it was when i first got the drive... or is it possible that I just have a bad lot of the media...

They were only $8 for 15 DVDs :P, anyone gotta link for Riteks for under 60¢ a piece online? (1, 2, or 4x, + or -) and does anyone know of a preference for this drive? (+ or -)... thx

Never had a problem with the princos I use (-r, but only use bulkpaq orange) and this drive - burnt 100's with only hand full of coasters (bombed out at lead in)
but I've never used 1 on an xbox either.

Saying that though any movies / data I really value and would be unable to replace goes onto quality media - TY or ritek (+R)

  6. Hi, I had the exact same problem when reading with an Apex ad500W.
At the end of the burning operation the application is successful. But when I play the movie it's going to freeze after 50-80% of the movie (on the APEX, not on the OPTORITE, not on my wife's laptop toshiba DVD-ROM player.......)

Causes: unreliable media or CPU overload force the burner proof mechanism due to kick off.

The burner proof mechanism saves the disk LOGICALLY that is creates tracks that are pointers to the next valid areas on the disk.

But ONLY the NEWEST players are able to read a disk that has been saved by burner proof mechanism.

I've got the same writer. I've never used Princo disks though. Mainly cause of there reputation. I've used Riteks-R, Memorex+RW, and Ridata +RW's. And have not had any problems. Other then the Riteks not playing perfect in my player. There's always little glitches and slight pauses. But that's only in my player and once in an PS2 as well. But other peoples players seem to play them fine. So it's a media issue with my DVD Player.
I would guess you've got a bad batch of princos. Try a different brand to be sure.
