  1. hi all, i've been using TMPGenc + VDub to encode my movies to VCD with no probs to date until now.

I have a movie in Xvid MPEG 4. It plays fine in WMP 9. ( well it did after i installed the latest FFdshow don;t know why)

but now when i try to encode it, the mpeg conversion comes out all distorted with horizontal lines and blocks and color runs.. i can see it in the preview window of TMPGenc

i am assuming its a codec problem.. but i dont know what to do.

as i mentioned, it plays ok in WMP but somehow doenst get along with TMPGenc

    help pleasssee..

  3. hey Paul,

Does this mean that you're frameserving with VDub?

You could try frameserving with AVISynth. Otherwise, check to see if your xvid codec is up to date (...not really sure if this will help).
    Happy to be here.

reencode the video to divx 5.11 using virtualdub first, then use tmpg to convert to vcd. That should fix the problem.

....And also diminish quality even further. Re-encoding isn't the best move. This is a codec issue, try resolving it first. Install the latest xvid codec, then try again with TMPGEnc.

  6. thanks for your help guys.

i might has mislead you with wong terms, so i'll explain it in step form.

basically what i am doing was doing is:

    1) Copy out the wave using V dub.
    2) Feeding the origianl avi with the new wav through TMPGenc to create the mpeg.

i thought it was a codec problem too. but it plays ok on the computer itself. only the resultant mpeg is distorted.

anyway, i will try out your suggestions and let you guys know if it worked.

    thanks.
    keep the advice coming

  7. paul_yry:

I sometimes have the same problem as you - if I load the Xvid directly in TMPGEnc I get weird distrotion (maybe it has something to do with TMPGEnc and how it handles the Xvid codec) .... the easiest way to solve it is frameserve from VirtualDub. Feed TMPGEnc the VirtualDub .vdr file and your WAV file and it will work just fine.
