  1. Hi everyone, I'm pretty new to the DVD authoring and I have a quick question that I think may lie within the author aspect of DVD creation. You see, I've been trying to burn some divx files with subtitles at the bottom of the screen. Now, I've managed to convert the files to NTSC format with zero quality loss using Cucuosft AVI to DVD. They play fine within WMP and I don't seem to be having any audio sync issues (before and after the authoring)

Now, when I burn the DVD using TMPGEnc DVD Author 1.5 (it’s a simple little tool that is very straight forward) the end product is a DVD with menus. However, when playing the movies back on the DVD player there is subtitle clipping at the bottom of the screen. I've tried using DVD-lab but eventually gave up on it... it was a little out of my league.

Is this subtitle clipping a result of the DVD authoring process or is it something else. Thank you for your help!

it probably is... I never used this app but have had similar problems... try when creating the dvd from the completed video to find where you can change the position of the subtitles and move them up a little... or if u're really stuck you can also try making the font a little smaller so it would fit...
With all due respect... and there is respect...

  3. I don't think I have any control over the subtitle size or location on the divx files. They are completely integrated into the video already.

oh... that's a bigger prob... u're just gonna have to resize the video to make it all fit on the screen since that means that with the subtitles also a part of the movie is clipped... just try resizing or playing around with the video options (maybe not make it widescreen?)
    good luck...

  5. Hmm, I actually tried resizing the image in TMPGEnc but it made the video quality drop considerably, the subs pixilate esspecially. The other problem is when I mess around with the video size my DVD author program tells me that I cannot create a non-standard DVD (meaning frame sizes other than DVD standard).

As for screen format, I havnt yet to try a 6:19 format since the actual anime is in 4:3 letterbox format arleady.

If you can recomend a DVD burning software that is fairly easy to use it'd be of much help. I think best buy is getting sick of me returning box after box of DVD authoring software ^^ ::

    Thanks for your help again!

Load the Divx up into an editor and turn on the title and action safe guides. You will probably find the subtitles cross over the lines. You don't have this problem on the PC because the players show you the full the full screen, however a television looses some of the visible area to the shell around the tube. I would suggest your only options are either resize, which you have already tried and weren't happy with, or slightly offset the image upwards. This will increase the clipping at the top, but at least the subtitles will be visible.
