  1. Hi

I am having trouble exporting my finished video from Premiere to get it ready to burn.

The original files are in DV format (Canopus codec) from a total size of approx 4.2GB.

I have made my changes, etc and now want to re-save it as an mpeg and burn it to DVD, but my problem is now I can't get the same quality as the original file. for some reason when I try to make my file fit on one DVD, the bitrate goes down to around 2000 instead of approx 5900-6500 that the original was in.

I have tried using an mpeg audio option, as well as wav, but I just can't seem to get the file to fit on one DVD without dropping the quality to an unacceptable amount. It's weird cause the new video I have made is 20min shorter than the original!!!

    What am I doing wrong??

Well, you are trying to put a video on a DVD without allowing for how long the video is. Remember, file size is a function of bitrate x time. So if you if you want a good estimate of what your file size should be, use a bit rate calculator.

  3. That's the weird thing, it SHOULD be around the 5700 mark. but I can't seem to get it like that.

I have also tried saving the file as an AVI and then converting in TMPENC and same issue occurs, I do not understand why, doesn't make sense.

The file is approx 1hour and 30min

  4. Try squishing the mpg file down with ReJig or DVDShrink. These two pieces of software eleiminate some of the intermediate motion vectors to reduce the size of the mpg file without requiring a lower bitrate. ReJig works particularly well, and it's freeware.

  5. Cool, will try the above.

Any other solutions? I got a long weekend coming up so I am gonna be trying to get this right during this time, so I wanna be armed with as many options as I can get!!!

Export it from premiere as Microsoft AVI, that is a uncompressed format, so make sure you have room, it will be big. Uncompressed = no quality loss.

Then use TMPGEnc Plus to make it a DVD compliant MPEG-2, you can change your bitrate in TMPGEnc Plus.

For me anyway, this is hands down the best method. I don't like adobe's MPEG encoder, I think the quality is poor...it's poorer than TMPGEnc's!
