Has the ffmpeg MPEG-2 encoder made any steps away from its "experimental" status yet? It's so wonderfully fast - it would be nice if it was now producing more usable output...

    I second that question.

Would you be able to add .mov for input for this type of encoding?
Right now I think it only takes .avi format for input.
    Thanks

  5. This is in the to-do list.

  6. Major, I ran into a very weird, but GREAT result with the ffmpegX encoding tonight! Someone here suggested converting any avi's to fast divX, as it seems to fix some sync issues. it works nicely, and then I've been running the fastVCD settings to make my VCD's. After a few drinks, I messed up and somehow set it to the MPEG2 ffmpegX encoder, and the audio was mistakenly set at 48000 as well. It encoded like a rocket!!!! The output MPG played perfectly in both VLC and Quicktime, and just for laughs, I tried to author the streams in Sizzle.....and it worked PERFECTLY? Nice DVD, other than a little fuzzy because the default for the fastVCD is 352x280, but otherwise flawless? I thought the MPEG2 was supposed to be fixed in the NEXT version? Furthermore, my avi original source was PAL, and I set the fastVCD to NTSC!!!! I Just hope I can duplicate it!!!!

  7. I had a play with the ffmpeg command-line tool for producing MPEG-2,.

The MPEG-2 that it produces althought very fast isn't quite compatible with the later stages of DVD authoring, but I found that after slpitting the audio and video out and then re-multiplexing as DVD compatible, the process is still quite a lot faster than the normal GUI based approach.

  8. Wait for version 0.0.9c.
