okay, did you use manual extract? it happens sometimes - m.e. will usually open it. I think I've run into one or two vob files where ChopperXP absolutely wouldn't do anything, but it's a small percentage...

  9. The way I did it took about 30-40mins total time.
1st- Used dvd decrypter to extract the chapter I wanted to use. Dvddecrypter will make the chapter into a vob file. I can't remember what
button to press but you will need to scroll to 'IFO'. When you clip it the main part of you dvd will show up with all the chapters.
2nd-Change the extension of the vob to mpeg.
3rd- I then inserted the mpeg into windows movie maker. The reason I did this was adobe premier 6.5 and ulead video studio 7.0 player the clips choppy with the audio out of synch even with I rendered it.
Windows movie maker renedered it perfectly.
4th- I then inserted the rendered clip into ulead video studio 7.0 and it worked great. You don't have to do this step if you don't need to

I hope this is helps you.

  11. I've had very mixed (mostly bad) results using a variety of mpeg editors. I've tried mpeg2cut (easy to use, but introduced digital artifacts/blockiness, and isn't very accurate for cutting); Ulead's video editor (same as previous, only more accurate); and Womble's mpeg2vcr (accurate and easy to use, no video problems, but it often destroyed the audio track - either putting it out of sync or rendering it into an unintelligible blur of noise).

Best thing I've tried yet, which I'm about to post on separately, is Womble's mpeg video wizard. I don't know if it has a true edit/cut feature per se, but what you can do is open a VOB, splice together just the parts of it you want, and make a new mpeg out of the results. You can also join together multiple VOBs (or parts of them) and mpegs, which is what I use it for. Not cheap to purchase, but try the test version - it's working for me.

aside from what was stated above, you could also rip the vob and frameserve it via DVD2AVI - then set your clip start/end points in your encoder

i tried using dvd2avi. i made a d2v file and then i used tmpgenc and join th ed2v file and mp3 together to make a svcd. the only problem is that when tmpgenc is done converting it to svcd, the software automatically closes. i don't get any error, it just disappears. because of this it doesn't finish encoding the last few seconds of the video. anyone know how to avoid this?

This happened to me in TMPGEnc when the Video Length and audio length did not match.

i used DVD2AVI to make a d2v and a wav file from a specific scetion in a VOB file. so i'm guessing that the audio and video are equal in time. is there any other way to convert the d2v and wav file to svcd?

You might want to try Cuttermaran (free), which lets you cut out portions of a video. Unfortunately, you have to demux to elementary streams first. I have had mixed success with this tool, but I'm a newbie, so I might just be doing something wrong.
