I recorded a video using a canon dc210 and i finalized it so i would be able to view it on my pc. When i tried to edit the vob file i couldn't because it comes up as image file rather than a video. The vob file is only 1mb big which i dont understand and the only way to play it is by opening it on windows media player and then selecting one of the scenes. I tried converting it but the output is always an image. What can i do so that i would be able to edit it. I would really appreciate any help.

A .vob that's only 1MB? Sounds a little odd to me. Is it a really short or low-resolution video?

Perhaps you could use VOB2MPEG to get MPEG files for editing.
If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them?
