    Hi all,

    I want to trim (cut out comercials) MPEG-2 already compliant files in Premiere Pro 7;

    Please, does it it unnecessarily re-encode the video ? Or does it just trim it, without re-rendering (Smart Render feature) ?

    Do I have to use any kind of special trick to make it to do NOT re-render already compliant MPEG-2 files when trimming ?

    Thanks,

    Zetti

  2. Pro does not support editing of MPEG2. There is a plug-in for Pro that will allow you to do that though (I think it's still in the works).

    Pro WILL re-render whatever you edit. It's best to use AVI files to edit in Pro.

  3. Use MPEG-VCR to edit out commericals. I takes 2 minutes to resave the video without commericals. Premiere only accepts AVI, it makes MPEGs real jerky.

    kickbxn5 what plug-in do I need to edit MPEGs in Premiere? I tried frameserving, but with NO sucess.

  4. If I'm not mistaken, I read somewhere that MainConcept is coming out with a plug-in to edit MPEgs.

    Right now, I'd say the best thing you could do is convert your MPEG to AVI using TMPEnc an d then edit using Pro.

    Thanks for replies;

    Well, if I import a MPEG-2 file at Premiere Pro 7, it accepts it...yes, I am sure, it accepts it;
    And if I set in-out points and tell it to export it, it does, using the Adobe Encoder (activated); but I'd like Premiere to do it without re-rendering the already compliant MPEG-2 files,
    Reading quickly the BIG help PDF file, it seems that, if I choose the same settings as the original source MPEG2 file, it'd make what I want....am I wrong ?
    Maybe I'd rather burn a RW media with original and trimmed video and compare....

    The point is : I have demuxed MPEG2 video and wave audio streams that I want to trim comercials out, streams are DEmultiplexed and as I don't know any sw that should multiplex MPEG2 video with WAVE audio, I think I'd rather load both at Premiere Pro and then work on it; I think Ulead Media Studio Pro would also make it;

    I DON'T WANT to convert the audio to lossy MPEG-2 or AC-3 and mux into the MPEG2 video with TMPGEnc or whatever....

    Please, any ideas on what I'm talking about ?

    Thanks so much,

    Zetti
