  1. Hello,

I rented the Lion King 3 on DVD.
I was able to play it on my standalone DVD player.
On my PC I could not read it anyway.
I also tried it on two other PC's, still no luck.
All PC's have different DVD/CDrom drives in it.

Does anyone now if DVD's are now also protected
as they have done for some Audio CD's ???

Well why are you trying to read it on a computer?

As long as it worked on the stand alone what's the big deal?

You do realize that you can't legally copy a rented DVD :P

Do you have a decoder installed.

    Try using PowerDVD or WinDVD.

no there is no new protection on dvds. it seems like you do not have a decoder installed.

You do realize that you can't legally copy a rented DVD
FulciLives, no where is it mentioned he is trying to copy the disc, do not jump to conclusions.

  4. Call your local video store and ask them why it won't play on your computer. I'd be curious to hear their responses.

Maybe he wanted to watch it on his PC. Doesn't make him a pirate, though.

my question is, if he's not trying to copy it, why is this post in the DVD-to-DVDR forum?
Because he is a newbie and this is his first post. look at the number of posts he has made. maybe he posted in the wrong forum. an easy mistake to make for someone posting for the first time.

  9. Not a lot of helpfull replies......so far
I'm using PowerDVD and WinDVD though.
I have a laptop with DVD player which is handy because
I use it as my portable DVD player.

So no illegal stuff perhaps the wrong forum.....
Which forum should I have used ?
    Sorry for that....anyway.

Still appreciate a good reply on this problem !!!!
I'm just wondering if according to the audio cd protection
now DVD's are also protected this way ?

Perhaps the 'software playing' forum would have been better?

Can windows explorer see the files on the DVD?.

Anyway. A few things to try:-

Disable 'autoplay' on your PC before putting the disk in the drive.
Boot the PC with the DVD already in the drive (should have same effect as above).

Rip the DVD to your HD (DvdDecrypter) and play it from there.

Please use the "Report this post" link if you suspect a poster
has broken the forum rules. That is what it is there for! There
has been a spate of examples where certain people have
drawn a quick (and often incorrect) conclusion about a posters motives
and or position in relation to the AUP, then taken matters into their
    own hands.

This has led to often unfriendly, sometimes even hostile responses
to undeserving recipients - especially those new to the board. This
    is plain and simple "bashing".

I think we should crack down on repeat offenders and will link this
to the Moderators forum for discussion.

  13. It's also fair use to take short clips out of a movie for review purposes and the like.

    Thanks for your reply.
    I did try all this.
Windows Explorer is able to see the contents of the disc(directory/files).
But you can't access the files with for example copy file to harddisk.

  16. make sure no other programs are open when you play it, including any cd/dvd programs. most dvds I get already have a player on the disk too.

  17. There is no encryption reason why the DVD will not play on your computer. It must be a program issue. I bet your owned DVDs do not play either. I suspect a software issue. I would uninstall and reinstall your DVD playing program. To test in a clean environment, use "control, alt, delete" to get to task manager and shut dowm all other programs before playing the DVD. It should run.

Sorry for some of the crap you received. There are very many helpful people and tools on this site. Some of the people are TOOLS! Some people, like Fulci are helpful yet biting at times. You will learn this over time.

  18. One more thought. If your other DVDs do work without resetting your computer, then the disk is bad.
