  1. I know that the noise is invisible when the video is watch on TV due to the overscan, but when the video is watch on computer it's boring.

I don't want to crop the video because I must re-encode it to put it on a dvd, i just want to apply "black color" on the noise...I've read that it's possible but I don't know how to do it and with which software.
If I'm oblige to crop the video, which software can add black to resize the video without re-encode it ? I acquire video directly in mpeg2 (520x576) with ATI MMC and I can crop it directly but the size is 672x528 !

If it's possible I would prefer use free software...

I hope that you can help me.

    thanks

You want the impossible with free software . Ambitious

ANY changes to the pictures in the video will require re-encoding
    Give up.

  3. MMC, I believe starting with version 8.0, will crop overscan and overlay with black IF type is set to DVD-MPG.

SFAIK it is not possible to do with an existing MPG without re-encoding.

  4. Nelson is right.
Make sure you select MPEG2-DVD or MPEG2-SVCD when you select "record cropped video" (as opposed to generic MPEG-2). MMC will then add black bars to keep the resolution compliant.

Does anybody know how much it crops , how much border it adds, or how
    to change the settings ?

  6. On the older MMC it cropped to 672x448, this could be changed using percentage values with Stinky's RegTool, I think it would snap to multiples of 4. Haven't tried the tool on newer MMC.
