My DVD player can play .avi files but no .ogm and no external subtitles. I understand that .ogm is just a container like .avi or QT. So it should be possible to somehow convert the .ogm to .avi without actually "converting" them in a matter of seconds, am I right? If I am, how can I do so?
And, is there an easy way to burn the subtitles into the movie, in order to get rid of the extra file?
Thanks in advance

i dont know about a matter of seconds... but if MplayerOSX can play that file then you have a chance with any of the mencoder GUI's

.ogm is like an avi, but with Ogg audio. You'd need to convert the audio, because nothing supports ogg.
If it isn't broken, take it apart and find out why.

Unfortunately I don't really know much about this stuff. It would be helpfull, if you could get a little bit more detailed.
Galactica, could mencoder change the container without reencoding the video, just the audio?
Deadsierra, how excactly would you go about that?
Thanks -
not entirely sure.. i just said if mplayerOSX plays it then you have a possibility
1. does mplayerOSX play it?
2. if so id try a passthough with ffmpegx to see if you can get something like .mp2 audio out of the file.
try that first ... see what ya get -
woops... probably want to know how to do passthough dont ya
1.**** Open FFMPEGX
2.**** Locate the .ogm file by clicking OPEN and selecting the file
3.**** Set the VIDEO CODEC to Passthrough (ffmpeg)
4.**** Unclick ENCODE VIDEO from the as seen next to the VIDEO CODEC pull down menu.
5.**** Click on the AUDIO tab
6.**** Change the AUDIO CODEC to .MP2
7.**** Set AUDIO BITRATE to 224 kb/s
8.**** Set SAMPELING to 48000 hz
9.**** Ensure ENCODE AUDIO is checked
10. Set your save location and save the file as AUDIO_48KHZ.mp2
11. Click ENCODE -
ogmdemux (which is part of ogmtools) could be of some help, as well. It uses a CLI, so YMMV...

you would have to get the .ogg over to .mp2 [some how]
when thats done, its divx to m2v and then mux the two together
problem is...... i dont know how to get the .ogg to .mp2 -

if you can get the audio over to .mp2, you can always make this into a dvd [which is easier to get subtitles into].
