Got my first burner in August 2001, burned first successful disc in September 2001. Blanks were $9 each, Pioneer discs. Next batch was Apple at $6 each. Then came Ritek for $5 each. All 1x or 2x discs.

I started earlier this year, around April. Using Verbatim first but now use TDK, Ritek G04, and BeAll's.

  3. Started burning actual DVDR's (as opposed to mini DVD's) in June. Have been making all sorts of Video CD's for the last two years - VCD to SVCD to CVD to 1/2 DVD.

Sometime in 2002, I can't remember when. First media I used cost around $5.
Got my retirement plans all set. Looks like I only have to work another 5 years after I die........

    May/June 2001.

TDK blanks were $17 each at the local circuit city. Webstores had Princo for $2-$3 each later that year.

Not yet but I'm getting a Sony DRU-510A in a couple of days.
    His name was MackemX

What kind of a man are you? The guy is unconscious in a coma and you don't have the guts to kiss his girlfriend?

Sony? Do you need to be flamed?

I started with DVDs last year. Once it became apparent that DVD+R would survive long enough to make me feel good about my previous investment in Sony technologies: Beta, MiniDisc, MemoryStick.

I can't remember when I started burning VCDs. It seems like a long, long time.

Me, Oh.. I started surfing vcdhelp some time in early Jan/2001 and signed
up w/ this great FORUM in March/2001. I burned my first VCD that say
    evening/night was it. Anyways...

It's ben lots of fun w/ VCD creation starting w/ my ATI-TV Wonder and then
my first hardware mpeg Dazzle DVC USB though quality was not as good
as some earlier arrivers at the game w/ this card, but I made many such
VCD's w/ it in my baby walk w/ this hobby :P

I have a Pioneer A05 DVD burner for almost a year I think, ..but to date, I
still haven't used it !! Does at least buying DVD R/W disks on sale every
    so often count hehe..

But, the main reason I'm not using (or can't) is because the box'es specs
say that the Burner requires a Win98SE as minimum. So, I waisted my
monies in a sense because I refused to move past my perfectly working
    Windows 98 Gold system.

    Brand: DVR-105 - (CenDyne 4x DVD R/RW)

  15. Windows 98 Gold? vhelp, it's okay to be different, but come on. This is the New World Order. Get with the rest of the population.

This is coming from somebody who still has an MS-DOS 6.22 partition on one of his computers. :P

    Great last poll option BTW
tgpo, my real dad, told me to make a maximum of 5,806 posts on vcdhelp.com in one lifetime. So I have.

First DVDs were this year. Before that I only used video on CDs. Not VCDs or SVCDs, but within multimedia presentations using MMB (same maker as DVDLab).

Wanted a better way. Found it here. :c)

I got a can of lighter fluid and set fire to Michael Moore's "Bowling for Columbine" DVD earlier this year. (It was a copy someone gave to me.)

Been burning for just over a year on an HP-200i. Receintly flashed to the Ricoh (thanks to the forums here).

Oh, on the "Bowling for Columbine"... I actually liked it. But I suppose most of the Canucks would get a laugh out of it.
