i encoded a dvd rip svcd with tmpgenc and then went to cut it with tmpgenc and it lost the last 30 seconds of audio in the cut clip, this has happened several times on several svcds, i used bbmpg to cut after i demultiplexed it and it cut it good, but the problem i have is that i want to have more control over the "exact" start and finish of the clip, ie i want to be able to include a few seconds from the end of clip 1 in the beginning of clip 2 so there is no loss of the feel of a scene, or if it is cutting in mid sentence. does anyone know of a way to get over lapping clips or maybe why tmpgenc always loses my last 30 seconds of audio on a cut clip. thanks, tim

TMPGEnc cuts off the last few seconds of a video when you cut with it because your video is probably 23.976fps and TMPGEnc assumes it's 29.97fps, hence it stops the audio early than it's supposed to.

What you can do is encode your videos into two parts.
Using the Select Range in TMPGEnc, select two parts, for CD1 and CD2 respectively. Then encode each CD seperately, hence you don't have to go the 'cut the video into half' step and your videos should play audio all the way to the end of the video file. =)

Just save yourself the trouble and use an mpeg2 cutting program that is actually compliant. bbmpeg is the ONLY free mpeg2 cutter that produces compliant svcd streams. Don't use TMPGenc to cut mpeg2 files, simple as that.

  4. What's the best MPEG-2 cutter in general (not only freeware)? Preferable one which is able to cut the MPEG in an exact selectable frame.

Same answer, bbmpeg. But to cut by frame you'd need to go through the movie and find the frame you want and use the time and enter that into bbmpeg.

  7. (As you can notice the lost of audio start after the point that you attend to cut). This might help you to get rid of the extra video after cutting with TMPGenc. First cut your mpeg2 with TMPGenc(I'd prefer 12a version) as a mpeg2-super vcd(vbr). Then load the cutted-file in "basic multiplex" also type "mpeg2-super vcd(vbr). You don't have to demux first, just load the full mpeg2 file in "video input".
This method will cut off the end of video without audio.

I don't know if your dvd player can handle this SVCD but my APEX play these SVCDs just fine.

But to avoid all the problem, I'd agree with Jeomite that you should encode each cd seperately using "Source frame range" under Advancd Tab.

I don't know about others with bbMPEG, but I,myself have out of sync problem (when select chapter or use GOTO button) with SVCD cutted by bbMPEG.
