I'm thinking of getting an ATI All-In-Wonder 128 to capture analog to mpeg2, but I've heard that it doesn't work very well with motherboards with via chips. Can anyone comment on that, good or bad?

I use an ATI All in Wonder 128 (non PRO) AGP, with a VIA mainboard. Only real problem that I had was with the onboard sound. Once that was replaced, no problems (except my own errors) since then.

Thanks. The board i'm thinking of will be a PCI board, not AGP, as my motherboard does not have an AGP slot. What were your sound issues as my board has on board sound (AC97).

I cannot say whether or not you might have the same problems.

    Sound issues (with onboard sound):

"buzzing" sound in captured MPEG2-from any input source (cable, VCR, composite...)
intermittent volume issues-most of the time, too loud; sometimes too soft

just didn't make me happy. When I switched to a different sound device (PCI sound card), and disabled the onboard sound, almost all of my problems went away-except for my own errors

If you should happen to get this card, try it out first with the setup that you have. Some report issues, while others have no problems at all. Maybe the PCI version is a totally different beast than the AGP version.
